Selecting and transforming objects
Selecting objects
Left-click a part in the viewport to select it and deselect everything else.
Shift-click adds the clicked part to the current selection or removes it if already selected.
Ctrl+click selects the clicked part's parent group.
Ctrl+Shift+click selects the top-level group above the clicked part.
Ctrl+A (Edit ▸ Select All Parts) selects every editable part and group in the scene. Locked parts are skipped and counted in the status bar.
Click empty space to clear the selection.
Click an item in the Outliner to select it. Shift-click in the Outliner extends the selection range.
Isolate and show all
Press / (Slash) or use Edit ▸ Isolate Selected to hide every part not in the selection. This writes visibility into the document.
Isolate is not a toggle. Use Edit ▸ Show All Parts to bring everything back. Be aware: Show All makes every part visible — including parts you had hidden on purpose before isolating.
Transform tools
Six tools are available in the viewport's left-edge strip and in the Edit menu:
| Key | Tool (Edit menu label) |
|---|---|
| Q | Select Tool |
| W | Move Tool |
| E | Rotate Tool |
| R | Scale Tool |
| T | Combined Tool (Move + Rotate + Scale handles together) |
| Y | Drag Tool (surface-placement; see Placing objects) |
These shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in a number or text field.
Transform gizmo
When Move, Rotate, Scale or Combined is active and an object is selected, the gizmo appears at the selection's pivot. Drag an axis arrow or a plane handle to transform along that axis or plane.
Press Esc to cancel a drag in progress and revert the transformation.
To show plane handles: Edit ▸ Settings… ▸ Viewport / Gizmos ▸ Gizmo appearance ▸ Show plane handles.
Snap to increments
Toggle Snap to Increments (the magnet icon in the viewport rail). When on, gizmo drags snap to the configured step.
During a gizmo drag:
- Hold Ctrl to temporarily invert snap for that drag.
- Hold Shift for finer precision steps (Precision divisor setting).
Access snap settings: right-click the Snap button in the viewport rail, or Edit ▸ Settings… ▸ Viewport / Gizmos ▸ Snapping.
Numeric transform
Edit ▸ Transform… (Ctrl+T) opens a dialog for entering position, rotation and scale values. It applies to the last-selected part only. The three scale fields are averaged into one uniform scale; see Placing objects — Numeric transform for details.
Duplicate and delete
Edit ▸ Duplicate Selected (Ctrl+D) duplicates all selected parts and groups at the same position.
If Ctrl+D does not duplicate, click in the viewport and try again.
Edit ▸ Delete Selected (Delete key) removes selected parts and groups. Delete is non-destructive and fully undoable — deleted parts remain in the document until purged.
Edit ▸ Purge Deleted Parts permanently removes all deleted parts. Purge cannot be undone and clears your entire undo history. Use it only when you are sure you no longer need those parts or the undo steps that refer to them.
Face selection
Face-level material edits: see Materials.
Selection context and inspector panels
The Object panel, Material panel, Camera panel, and Animation panel all update when the selection changes. See Animation for notes on panel behaviour during playback.
Measuring and annotating
These commands are in the Edit menu.
Measure Distance
Edit ▸ Measure Distance — select exactly two parts first.
The result appears in the status bar and is copied to the clipboard:
Distance (centre-to-centre): X · ΔX A ΔY B ΔZ C units (copied)
The measurement is the world-space centre-to-centre distance plus the per-axis components. Distances use the document's current unit (set in the Units picker in the status bar). If fewer or more than two parts are selected, the status bar reads "Select exactly two parts to measure" and no measurement is made.
Measure Angle
Edit ▸ Measure Angle — select exactly three parts first. The middle part (second in selection order) is the vertex; the other two are the arms.
Result (status bar + clipboard):
Angle at middle part: X° (arms A / B units)
If the selection has other than three parts, the status bar reads "Select exactly three parts (middle = vertex)". If two parts coincide, the status bar reads "Parts coincide — no angle".
Bounding Box
Edit ▸ Bounding Box — works with or without a selection.
- With selection: reports the axis-aligned bounding box of the selected parts:
Bounding box (N part(s)): X A × Y B × Z C · diagonal D units (copied)
- No selection: reports the bounding box of the whole model:
Bounding box (whole model): X A × Y B × Z C · diagonal D units (copied)
The same text, without (copied), is placed on the clipboard.
If no geometry exists: "No geometry to measure".
Notes
Edit ▸ Add Note to Selected… — select a part, then choose this command. The Callout Note dialog opens with the prompt Note text (empty removes it):. With nothing selected, the status bar reads Select a part to annotate. The note attaches to the last-selected part.
Notes appear as callout labels in the viewport and are saved with the document.
Notes are not on the undo stack: Clear All Notes cannot be undone.
Edit ▸ Clear All Notes — removes all notes from the document. The status bar reports how many were cleared. If no notes exist: "No notes to clear".
To toggle the display of notes in the viewport, use Display Filters ▸ Notes.
Projects
Edit ▸ Projects… — opens the Client Projects dialog, which lists your saved client / brand projects stored in the asset backend.
Note: Projects require the asset backend to be running. If it is not running, the status bar reads "Projects need the asset backend — it isn't running" and the dialog does not open.
The dialog lists your projects. New… adds one (it asks for Project / client name:; duplicates are ignored). Delete removes the selected project immediately, without confirmation or undo. Deleting the active project clears it. Set Active (or a double-click) makes the selected project active and closes the dialog; the active project shows in bold with a tick, in the status-bar Project: button and in the window title as [name]. Close leaves the dialog.
The active project is shown in the Project: button at the right end of the status bar. Click the button to manage projects from anywhere in the app.
