Your first product image

Use a small product model for your first project. This walkthrough links to the detailed controls as you need them.

1. Open VIZid

Install VIZid from Downloads. On an eligible machine, choose Start my free 30-day trial in Licence & Trial, or enter your machine's licence code and choose Activate.

See first launch for the Welcome screen and licensing for obtaining a code.

2. Import your model

Choose File ▸ Import 3D Model… (Ctrl+I) and select a STEP or OBJ file. Wait for the import to finish, then press F to frame the selection or scene.

Use File ▸ Import 3D Model (Options…) when you need to control the import. The import guide explains the options.

3. Find a useful view

In the default Studio (direct) navigation profile, drag with the left mouse button to orbit, the middle button to pan and the right button to dolly. The mouse wheel also moves closer or farther away.

Click a part to select it. The navigation guide covers other profiles, framing and display controls.

4. Set the surface finish

Choose View ▸ Unlock Advanced UI if the panel entries are disabled, then View ▸ Material for the selected part. Choose a material type and adjust its finish. Start with the base colour and roughness, then add more detail as needed.

Follow the Material Editor guide to assign, reuse or make a material unique. Add textures and labels for graphics and surface detail.

5. Shape the lighting

Open View ▸ Environment to choose and orient the environment. Watch the reflections as you rotate it. Adjust the ground and background to suit the product, then add individual lights if needed.

See environment and ground and lighting.

6. Compose the image

Open View ▸ Camera to adjust the lens and framing. Check your intended output dimensions before refining the composition. See cameras and Render Output.

7. Save the project and render

Choose File ▸ Save (Ctrl+S) to save a .vizid document.

For a final image, choose Render ▸ Render Current View As… (Ctrl+Shift+E). The rendering guide covers quality and output settings.

For a quick image from the current rendered frame, choose Render ▸ Save Image… (Ctrl+E). Wait until the rendered frame represents the view you want to save; this command saves that frame at its current resolution.
