Materials panel

The Materials panel lists materials saved on this computer by earlier versions of VIZid. Open it from View ▸ Materials. If the entry is greyed out, choose View ▸ Unlock Advanced UI first.

The same entries also appear in Edit ▸ Saved Materials, which also provides Delete a Saved Material… — a picker dialog for removing individual entries.

This panel is separate from the Asset Library, which holds all current material saves, shared library materials, environments, cameras and other assets.

Panel layout

The panel shows:

  • Material grid — 96 × 96 px painted finish sphere tiles, one per saved material. Tile labels are shown below each thumbnail.
  • Save Current button — opens the Save Material to Library dialog and saves the material to the Asset Library. The saved material then appears in View ▸ Library, not in this panel.
  • Delete button — removes the selected entry immediately from this computer's saved list. There is no confirmation prompt and no undo.

A hint below the buttons reads: "Double-click a material to apply it."

Applying a saved material

Double-click any tile to apply that material to the current selection. A selection is required — if nothing is selected, nothing happens. Parts that are locked are skipped and reported in the status bar; if all selected parts are locked, the status reads "Every selected part is locked — 'X' was not applied."

Saving a new material

Click Save Current to open the Save Material to Library dialog and save to the Asset Library. See Asset Library — Saving a material to the library.

Deleting a saved material

Select a tile and click Delete. The entry is removed immediately. There is no confirmation prompt and no undo.

Notes

  • This panel shows only entries saved by older builds. No new entries appear here; new saves go to the Asset Library.
  • To save materials for use across machines or with a team, use the Save to Library button in the Material panel identity band.
  • Asset Library — full shared library for materials and other assets
  • Materials — surface controls and the Material panel identity band
