Settings

The Settings dialog contains all application-wide preferences and render quality pages. Open it from Edit ▸ Settings… in the menu bar.

Render ▸ Render Settings opens the full Render Settings panel at its Final scope. View ▸ Render Settings opens the same panel. The Settings dialog still has its own render preference pages under Edit ▸ Settings….

Pages

Interface

Controls the visual appearance and text density of the application.

Layout and density:

  • Spacing — adjusts the density of rows and padding throughout panels and dialogs.
  • Icon size — adjusts the size of dock and panel tab icons in pixels.
  • Field size — the height of input rows.
  • Field text — the text size inside input fields.

Labels and text:

  • Text size — base text size for panel labels.
  • Label style — Full (full names) or Short (abbreviated names) for panel labels.
  • Tab labels — show or hide text labels on panel tabs.
  • Tab label size — text size for tab labels.

Animation timeline:

  • Animation row spacing — Standard, Compact or Dense row height in the animation timeline.
  • Animation text and rows — size of timeline text and track rows.

Frame numbering:

  • Frame numbering — whether the first frame is labelled Start at 0 or Start at 1 (display only; does not change frame data).

Viewport / Gizmos

Controls the interactive viewport gizmo appearance, snapping and input behaviour.

Gizmo appearance:

  • Size, Line thickness, Opacity — visual weight of the transform gizmo.
  • Show plane handles — show the square handles for constrained plane movement.
  • Show screen ring — show the screen-space rotation ring.

Light gizmo:

  • Selection pin size — the radius of the light pin marker.
  • Handle size — the size of the light handle in the viewport.
  • Footprint on lit surface — whether a footprint is drawn on the surface a light illuminates.
  • Reference-distance ring — show a ring at the reference distance when the cursor is not over a lit surface.

Snapping:

  • Snap to increments by default — snap is on when you drag (turn off to move freely, hold a key to snap temporarily).
  • Move step, Angle step, Scale step — increment sizes for each axis type.
  • Precision divisor — divides the step when a precision modifier key is held.

Mouse:

  • Click / drag threshold — maximum pixel distance between press and release before it becomes a drag.
  • Drag left / right Inverted, Drag up / down Inverted — reverse the drag direction for horizontal or vertical gestures.

Shaded viewport:

  • Antialiasing — the sample level for the GPU-drawn Shaded picture. If a material requires the CPU fallback, the picture keeps one sample; the rung status line reports this.

Colour scheme:

  • Preset — choose a colour scheme: VIZid, Blender, Maya or Custom. Maya here is a colour scheme, not a navigation mode.
  • Colours — individual colour overrides when Preset is Custom.

Selection and Hover

Controls how selected and hovered objects are highlighted in the viewport.

Selection outline:

  • Renderer — GPU-side outline via Vulkan, or CPU (diagnostic mode).
  • Width, Opacity, Colour — visual style of the selection outline.
  • Show through parts in front — the outline is visible even when another part overlaps the selection.
  • Hidden opacity — opacity when shown through other parts.
  • Shade inside the outline — fill the interior of the selection with a shade overlay.
  • Shade opacity, Fade the shade in and out, Fade time — control the fill animation.

Hover highlight:

  • Outline the part under the cursor — enable hover highlighting.
  • Width, Opacity, Colour — visual style of the hover outline.

Units

Controls the unit system used for display and import.

  • Default import unit — the unit assumed when importing 3D models that do not carry unit metadata.

Workspace

Controls how saved panel layouts interact with documents.

  • Apply panel layout from file — when on, opening a document restores the panel layout that was saved with it.

System

Controls hardware settings and the rendering API.

  • Zero-Copy Display (GPU interop) — enables direct GPU memory sharing between the renderer and viewport when supported by the hardware.
  • Viewport graphics API — Automatic (recommended) or Raster only (diagnostic). Changing this requires a restart.
  • Show experimental Guided caustics solver — adds the Guided option to the Caustics dropdown in Render Settings. Off by default.
  • Neural runtime — path to an NGX neural-rendering runtime used by AI Enhance's Neural engine. Click Locate… to point VIZid at a runtime you have installed. Click Clear to stop using it and fall back to the shader engine. VIZid does not download or ship this runtime.

Render device (GPU / CPU): change the render device with the GPU / CPU cell on the viewport's right edge — it is not in the Settings dialog.

CAD Bridge contains Bake step (0.001–1 frames; default 0.25) and Bake error (0.000000001–0.01; default 0.0001), which control the sampling and tolerance used by Bake Follow over Work Area.

AI Models

Manage the local AI engine (ComfyUI) and download models for AI Backdrop and related features. Use Install… or Locate ComfyUI… to set up the engine, then Start to run it. The catalogue lists available model groups — Backdrop, Harmonise, Light probe, Upscale and Depth control — with download size, VRAM requirement and a fit indicator for this machine.

Pages Added When a Document Is Open

These pages appear in the Settings dialog only when a document is open. Without an open document, the two Render pages show a placeholder note ("Render settings are saved with the document"); the Display and Playback pages do not appear.

Display

Controls how the rendered image is shown on the display.

  • HDR display output — enables high dynamic range output on a supported HDR display.
  • Monitor profile — the ICC profile for your display. Also used for the colour encoding of delivered PNG and JPG files; changes here are saved with the document's Final render settings.
  • View transform — tone mapping applied when showing the render on screen. Also saved with the document's Final render settings.

Monitor profile and view transform affect both the on-screen appearance and the encoding of delivered still images. They are saved with the document's Final render settings — changes made here carry through to the final render output.

Playback / Cached Playback

Controls how the playback cache works.

Use Cached Playback is a machine preference — it is written immediately and is not saved with the document. All other controls on this page apply to the document when you click OK.

ControlWhat it does
Use Cached PlaybackEnable or disable the playback cache. Also in the Render menu. Machine preference.
Cached playback samplesQuality of cached frames (samples per pixel).
Cached playback resolutionWhether cached frames render at Match viewport, Full resolution, or Reduced (fast).
Cached playback resolution (long edge)The pixel count of the long edge when Reduced (fast) is selected.
Motion blur shutter (cached)Shutter interval for cached frames when motion blur is on.
Motion blur steps (cached)Number of motion-blur segments for cached frames.
Motion blur auto-raise ceiling (cached)Allow the renderer to automatically increase step count for cached frames.
Match viewport buttonSets the three motion-blur values above to match the current viewport settings.
Cache budgetRead-only display of the available cache budget (from available RAM or disk space).

Motion blur for cached frames is on when the animation panel's motion blur toggle is on. Set the shutter to 0 to cache sharp frames while leaving the toggle on.

Cache store (RAM or Disk), disk folder and disk budget are in the Render Settings panel's Cached Playback scope.

Render / While Editing

Shows a subset of the While Editing scope settings from the Render Settings panel. Edits here are applied to the document when you click OK.

Render / Final

Shows a subset of the Final scope settings from the Render Settings panel. Edits are applied to the document when you click OK.

Applying Changes

Most settings take effect immediately as you change them. Render settings pages (Render / While Editing and Render / Final) apply their changes to the document only when you click OK. Click Cancel to restore everything you changed in this dialog session. Restore Defaults resets the viewport gizmo, snapping, mouse, antialiasing, selection and hover highlight settings and the colour scheme, plus the CAD Bridge Bake step and Bake error, whichever page is showing.

Colour Picker

The colour picker opens whenever you click a colour swatch — in the Palette panel, the Lighting panel, the Environment panel, label controls in the Material editor, or anywhere else a colour swatch appears.

Layout

Mode buttons (top row):

ButtonMode
Squarea saturation/brightness square with a vertical hue bar at its right
Wheela hue ring around a saturation/brightness square (default)
Tempa warm-to-cool field from 1500 K to 15000 K (left to right), with brightness top to bottom. The tooltip reads "Colour temperature (Kelvin)".

Pick from screen — a button labelled with the text glyph "⛶". Click Pick from screen and move the pointer: the colour previews live. Left-click to keep the sampled colour. Esc or another mouse button stops picking but keeps the last previewed colour; press Esc again to return to the colour you started with and close the picker.

Colour surface — the main interactive area. Drag to change the colour.

Numeric fields:

RowFieldsRange
RGBR, G, B0–255
AlphaA0–255
HSVH, S, VH: 0–359°, S: 0–100%, V: 0–100%
HexHex#RRGGBB

Swatches (bottom row):

SwatchTooltipWhat it shows
Left swatch"Original"The colour when the picker was opened.
Right swatch"New"The current selection.

Usage

  • Every change applies live to the control you opened the picker from.
  • Enter, or clicking anywhere outside the picker, keeps the new colour and closes it.
  • Esc restores the starting colour (the Original swatch) and closes the picker. In this build Esc does not restore Alpha: if you changed A, set it back before closing.
  • Drop a colour from the Palette anywhere on the picker to use it.
  • Each colour control remembers whether you last used Square, Wheel or Temp.

  • Render Settings — the Render Settings panel, which gives full access to all three scopes
  • Render a still image — use Final scope settings to control final render quality
  • Animation — Cached Playback settings govern animation preview quality
