AI Studio
VIZid includes AI-powered features that enhance backgrounds and improve render quality. All AI features are optional: the product always renders correctly without them.
Current AI features:
- AI Backdrop — generates a background scene around your product (Compositor panel)
- AI Enhance — neural rendering enhancement to increase perceived quality (Compositor panel)
- AI Models settings — manage the AI engine and downloadable models (Settings ▸ AI Models)
Setting up AI Models
Manage the local AI engine and download models in Settings ▸ AI Models.
Access
Open Edit ▸ Settings… and navigate to the AI Models page.
Hardware
The top of the page shows a line describing this machine. Each model row states whether it fits the detected hardware.
Engine
The engine status line at the top of the AI Models page shows which ComfyUI runtime is active:
- managed ComfyUI in VIZid's data folder — VIZid manages it.
- your ComfyUI at … — a located installation.
- a ComfyUI already running on port N — a locally running server, detected automatically.
- none found. Locate a ComfyUI folder to enable AI backdrops — not yet set up.
Setting up the engine when none is found:
- In Settings ▸ AI Models, click Locate ComfyUI… to point VIZid at an existing local installation, or click Install… to download and set up a managed copy (approximately 2 GB download; around 8 GB free space required).
- Once located or installed, click Start to start the engine in the background.
The engine is needed for AI Backdrop only. AI Enhance (Neural mode) uses the NVIDIA NGX runtime, not the ComfyUI engine.
Model catalogue
Below the engine status, a scrollable list shows available AI models. Each row shows the model name, type, licence, download size, VRAM requirement, and fit indicator.
| Button | Action |
|---|---|
| Download | Downloads this model to local storage. Required before first use. |
| Use / Selected | Activates this model for its feature. |
| Remove | Deletes the local copy. The model can be re-downloaded at any time. |
| Cancel download | Cancels an in-progress download. |
Models are grouped by feature type:
- Backdrop — image generation models for AI Backdrop
- Harmonise — colour harmonisation models
- Light probe — environment lighting models
- Upscale — resolution upscaling models
- Depth control — depth-conditioned generation models
Only Backdrop models have a consumer in the current release. Other groups are available for download but their panels are not yet active.
Using AI Backdrop
AI Backdrop places your product into a generated environment — a setting photograph rather than a studio backdrop. The product's pixels always come from the renderer; the AI fills only the background area.
Prerequisites:
- At least one backdrop model downloaded in Settings ▸ AI Models.
- Engine running.
- Environment ▸ Background set to Backplate Image.
Steps:
- Open the Compositor panel (View ▸ Compositor).
- Scroll to the AI Backdrop section.
- In Prompt, describe the environment: a kitchen worktop with morning light from the left.
- Optionally add an Avoid description (works with Stable Diffusion models; FLUX models ignore it).
- Leave Seed empty for a new result, or enter a number to reproduce a previous result. Turn on Lock to keep the current seed across multiple generates.
- Click Generate backdrop. Progress appears in the status line below the button.
- When generation completes, the status reads "Backdrop applied as the backplate — re-rendering." The image becomes the document's backplate and Background mode switches to Backplate Image, replacing any photo that was there.
Toggle the backdrop on and off:
- In the Environment panel, Background tab, set Background mode to AI Backdrop to use it, or switch to another mode to hide it. Switching modes does not delete the generated image.
Using AI Enhance
AI Enhance improves the visual quality of converged renders using a post-processing neural model. Two engines are available:
| Engine | Requirement | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Shader | Any GPU; nothing to install | Every frame, including viewport preview |
| Neural | NVIDIA NGX runtime (not shipped) | Converged frames only |
| Both | Both of the above | Shader result shows immediately; Neural crossfades in when ready |
Setting up the Neural engine:
The Neural engine requires nvngx_dlssnr.dll from NVIDIA. VIZid does not ship this file. Point the app at it in Settings ▸ System ▸ Neural runtime ▸ Locate….
Using AI Enhance:
- Open the Compositor panel.
- Expand the AI Enhance section.
- Enable the effect.
- Select an Engine: Shader for immediate results; Neural when you have the runtime installed.
- Choose a Preset: Balanced (general purpose), Detail (high-frequency emphasis), or Soft (smooth finish).
- Adjust Intensity, Structure, and Tone to taste. For most product renders, default values are a good starting point.
- If your scene includes skin or body parts, Auto mask (on by default) limits Structure to skin-like tones, preventing an over-sharpened skin look. Adjust Skin to raise or lower the Structure weight on those areas.
Material AI
The Material editor's AI tab currently shows AI generation — coming soon; it has no controls yet.
