Render Queue

The Render Queue holds render jobs and shows their progress and outcome. Each job captures the scene and render settings at the time it was added.

Panel access: View › Render Queue. If the panel list appears greyed out, choose View › Unlock Advanced UI first.

Adding Jobs

Jobs are added with Queue Up in the Render dock or Add to Queue in the Render Output panel. The line Jobs are added from the Render Output panel is always shown below the queue controls.

  • A still queues the frame at the playhead.
  • A sequence queues its whole frame range as one job, with its folder, scale and video choice.
  • Render variants selected in the Render dock queue one still per combination; the jobs are queued together as one batch. See Render Variants.

A job keeps the scene as it was when you queued it. Later edits to the document, or switching to another document, do not change it.

Some sequences cannot be queued yet: those where a part moves, changes shape or has animated visibility, and ranges that start inside a dissolve or image transition. In those cases nothing is queued and the status bar says why; render the sequence with Render… instead.

Clicking Render… renders directly — it does not create a queue entry.

Queue Controls

ControlWhat it does
Render AllStart all queued jobs in order. Changes to Rendering… while a job is active.
Pause / ResumePause after the current job finishes. Resume starts the next queued job.
StopCancel the job that is currently rendering. The job bundle is kept; the job moves to a non-Ok state and can be retried.
RetryRe-run the selected job from its preserved settings (scene, size, samples and watermark as captured when it was queued).
Re-queue from documentAvailable for Expired jobs. Creates a fresh job using the current document values.
RemoveRemove the selected job from the queue.

Job Rows

Each row in the queue shows:

  • The job name and output destination path.
  • A summary of quality settings: samples, format, bit depth, and whether the watermark is set.
  • A thumbnail of the rendered image for completed jobs.
  • Progress and estimated time remaining while the job renders.
  • The outcome state when the job finishes.

Job States

Each job row shows its state as a short phrase. The exact phrases are listed below.

StateRow showsWhat it means
QueuedqueuedThe job is waiting to run.
RenderingrenderingThe job is currently rendering.
PausedpausedThe queue is paused; this job is waiting.
Okdone — double-click to viewThe render completed and the output file was written by this job. Double-click to open it.
CancelledcancelledYou stopped the job before it finished.
Crashedrenderer crashedThe render process crashed — the operating system reported an abnormal exit.
Failedrenderer failedThe render process exited with an error code.
Expiredexpired — the queue file is goneThe queue bundle for this job has been deleted from temp. Use Re-queue from document to create a fresh job with current settings.
Vacuousexited 0 and wrote no fileThe process exited normally but produced no output file.
Staleexited 0; the file on disk is from an earlier renderThe process exited normally but the file at the destination was not written by this job — an earlier render's file is still there.
Truncatedwrote a 0-byte fileA new file was created but contains no data.

Stale is the most important state to notice: it means the file at the path you specified looks like a completed render but is from an earlier session. Render again to replace it.

Each job row also shows a frozen-settings summary in the format froze W×H · N spp · FORMAT · N-bit listing the size, sample count and format captured when the job was queued.

Retrying a Job

Retry is available for Cancelled, Crashed, Failed, Vacuous, Stale and Truncated jobs. Re-running a job uses the settings captured when it was first queued — the scene, size, samples and watermark are preserved. An Expired job offers Re-queue from document instead, which creates a fresh job using the current document values.

Job Progress

The queue shows each job's progress and estimated time remaining while it renders, then its final outcome.
