A photographic lighting toolkit

Light a product the way a photographer would: with softboxes, strip lights, beauty dishes and barn doors that behave like the real equipment, measured in real units.

Studio equipment, virtually

Build the rig the shot needs.

Studio lights add controlled sources to your scene alongside the environment — a strip for a long edge highlight, a focused accent on a logo, a rim light to lift a dark product off a dark background.

Lights and fixtures

Point, spot, area and sun lights, with square, rectangular, disc and ellipse areas. Photographic fixtures include softbox, octabox, strip-box, beauty dish, umbrella, shoot-through, panel, tube, ring, lantern and PAR, with grids, diffusion layers and an optional visible housing.

Shaped like real equipment

Fixtures emit from glowing geometry, so barn doors genuinely block light and a visible housing casts real shadows. Barn doors can move together, in horizontal and vertical pairs, or individually, with adjustable flap length.

Colour and character

Set colour directly or in kelvin, add a gel, or load an IES profile to reproduce a manufacturer’s beam pattern. Decide whether each light is visible to the camera and in reflections.

Measured, aimed and placed

Work in the unit that suits your reference: watts, lumens, lux at a distance, candela or exposure value. Switching units converts the number without changing the light, and an illuminance readout shows what reaches the subject. Normalize keeps total power constant while you change a light’s size, so making a softbox bigger softens it rather than brightening it.

Position, aim and rotate each light, or give it a target part and let it re-aim whenever the light or the product moves. A viewport overlay on the selected light puts power, colour and size where you are looking.

Example: a black kettle on a black sweep

Place two tall strip-boxes behind and to either side for rim highlights that trace the silhouette, a large octabox overhead for a soft top reflection, and a gridded spot with barn doors to pick out the embossed logo without spilling onto the body. Hide the fixtures from the camera but keep them in reflections.

A practical workflow

  1. Add the fixture that matches the reflection you need.
  2. Aim it at the product or lock it to a target.
  3. Shape the spill with barn doors, grids and diffusion.
  4. Set colour temperature and power in the unit you prefer.
