Refine the balance

Once the lights are in place, the finishing work is balance: key against fill, warm against cool. Adjust power and colour and judge the change on the rendered product rather than waiting for it to rebuild.

The last ten per cent

Tune the mix, keep the picture.

Balancing is about comparison. VIZid Next keeps the controls for each light close at hand and, where it can, updates the rendered image straight from what it has already computed.

Per-light control

Adjust each light’s power and colour from the lights panel or an overlay in the viewport. Solo a light to see exactly what it contributes, mute it temporarily, or switch it off. Environment lights have their own solo for the same check.

Rebalance without re-rendering

Once a scene has rendered, dragging a grouped light’s power or colour re-mixes its stored contribution instead of starting the image again. Moving, resizing or reshaping a light still triggers a normal render, because the light itself has changed.

Save what works

Save a light’s settings and revert to them after an experiment. Saved environments keep a complete environment setup together with all of its lights, so an approved balance can be reused on the next product.

Ground the product

A studio floor catches contact shadows and reflects the product, which anchors it in the frame and shows its base as clearly as its top. Adjust shadow distance, falloff, contrast and colour, and set reflection roughness and contrast. A dark floor gives the glossy hero reflection that suits premium products; a light one keeps a catalogue shot clean. Glowing materials such as screens and indicator lights can also cast light, and each can be switched on or off from the lights panel when it starts to compete with the key.

Example: a smartwatch hero image

With the watch rendered, solo the rim light to check it traces the case, then bring it down until it no longer flattens the bezel. Warm the key slightly to flatter the leather strap, cool the fill so the sapphire reads crisp, and lower the screen’s glow so it does not wash out the dial. Finish with a dark reflective floor for a clean reflection under the case.

A practical workflow

  1. Render the scene once with every light in place.
  2. Solo each light to confirm its job, then return to the full mix.
  3. Balance power and colour, comparing the result on the product.
  4. Save the light settings or the full environment when the balance is approved.
