Colour grading

Give every render a deliberate colour treatment, from clean and neutral for a catalogue to warm and atmospheric for a lifestyle hero, without leaving VIZid Next.

Grading controls in the app

The Colour Grading panel works on the rendered image. You can adjust the mood of a shot without touching the materials or lights you have already approved.

Exposure

Brighten or darken the whole image in photographic stops, so a dark finish reads clearly or a white product doesn't clip.

White balance

Temperature and Tint warm, cool or neutralise the image, for example to take a colour cast out of a white plastic housing.

Lift, gamma and gain

Three colour wheels set the shadows, mid-tones and highlights separately. Use the level fields for brightness and the numeric section for exact per-channel values.

Contrast and saturation

Contrast pivots around middle grey, so mid-tones stay put. Saturation runs from full monochrome to strongly boosted colour.

View transforms

Choose how scene light maps to the screen, with options such as Standard, Filmic, AgX and Khronos PBR Neutral. You can target sRGB or Display P3 screens; the options available depend on the display.

Grade and effects in order

Decide whether the grade comes before or after image effects such as bloom and grain. Switch grading off at any time to compare against the ungraded render.

Example: a white cordless kettle for two audiences

For the online store, the kettle's white body has to look white. A small Tint correction removes the green cast from the environment, and Gain lifts the highlights without blowing out the handle. For the lifestyle image, the designer warms the Temperature, pulls Lift slightly towards blue for cooler shadows, and eases Saturation back so the accent colour stays restrained.

The grade is saved with the document, so reopening the file brings back the same treatment.

A practical workflow

  1. Settle materials and lighting first, then choose a view transform.
  2. Set Exposure, then Temperature and Tint, until the product's neutral areas look neutral.
  3. Shape shadows, mid-tones and highlights with Lift, Gamma and Gain.
  4. Finish with Contrast and Saturation, and toggle grading off to check the change.
