Image effects

Make an indicator light glow, draw the eye to the product and give a render a photographic finish, all in the Compositor. You don't need a separate editing application.

Finishing effects, each with its own switch

Turn each effect on or off independently, and change the order they apply in, until the image suits the presentation.

Bloom

Threshold, Knee, Intensity, Size and Aspect decide which highlights glow and how far the glow spreads. Useful for LEDs, displays and bright specular edges.

Vignette

Amount, Size, Softness and Roundness darken the frame edges gently and keep attention on the product.

Lens character

Distortion adds barrel or pincushion curvature. Dispersion adds the colour fringing of a real lens at high-contrast edges.

Grain and sharpen

Grain has Amount, Size and a Coloured option to sit a render beside photography. Sharpen has Amount and Radius to crisp up fine detail such as knurling or text.

Stylised filters

Pixelate, and a painterly Kuwahara filter in Classic or Anisotropic form, for concept boards and mood images.

AI Enhance

Refine detail and tone with Balanced, Detail or Soft presets, Intensity, Structure and Tone controls, and an automatic mask. An optional neural engine needs a compatible NVIDIA runtime.

Example: a smart speaker with a light ring

The speaker's status ring should read as lit, but the fabric cover must stay matte. The designer raises the Bloom Threshold until only the ring glows, and keeps Size small so the glow hugs the ring. A light vignette pulls the eye to the controls on top. Fine, uncoloured grain helps the render sit beside the lifestyle photography in the brochure, and a touch of Sharpen brings out the fabric weave.

A depth-of-field effect is also available in the Compositor for quick previews. For photographic focus in final renders, use the camera's aperture and focus distance.

A practical workflow

  1. Turn on the Compositor once materials and lighting are settled.
  2. Add Bloom for emissive details, then a Vignette for focus.
  3. Add lens character, grain or sharpening to match the presentation.
  4. Reorder the effects if needed, and toggle each one to compare before and after.
