Product colourways

Switch the whole product from “Graphite” to “Sand” to “Signal Orange” in one step during a review, and render every option from every camera without setting each one up by hand.

CMF alternatives

Every option, one click apart.

Colourways are stored with the product document, so the alternatives you prepared are still there when the review starts — and when the next revision arrives.

Material sets

Group the alternatives for a component — say three housing plastics — into a named set and tag each one with the colourways it belongs to. Step through a set’s members from the material editor, and link sets so trim and housing change together.

One switch for the product

Choose a colourway and every material set moves to its tagged member, falling back to a default where nothing is tagged. The switch is a single undoable step, so comparing options never leaves the scene half-changed.

Saved looks and overrides

Save a look to capture every part’s current material under a name, shown as a strip of swatches; double-click to return to it. Per-part overrides keep an individual detail, such as a logo badge, set the way you want.

From exploration to a full set of renders

Try colours quickly from palette swatches — product neutrals, brand primaries, metallics, pastels and automotive tones — then save the combinations worth keeping. Render All Looks queues one shot per saved look, and Render All Cameras × Colourways produces every saved camera in every colourway. A camera can also be pinned to a single colourway when a view only makes sense in one finish. Colourway changes can be keyframed, so a turntable can step through the range.

Rule-based looks can be captured from the scene and re-applied, which helps when an updated CAD model replaces the parts they were assigned to.

Example: a range of cordless earbuds

Build a set for the case shell, another for the earbud body and a third for the ear tips. Tag the combinations as Midnight, Stone and Coral, link the bud body to the case, and override the logo to stay silver throughout. One click moves the range between finishes in the meeting; one command renders the full matrix for the deck.

A practical workflow

  1. Create a material set for each component that changes.
  2. Tag members with the colourway names from your CMF brief.
  3. Switch colourways to check each combination from your key views.
  4. Queue the cameras × colourways render for the presentation.
